Talking as Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham – Book Review

Talking As Fast As I Can / Lauren Graham / 2016 / Viking / ISBN 9780143784876 / 205 Pages / Biography

From the star of the much-loved television show Gilmore Girls and Parenthood and author of the New Your Times bestselling novel Someday, Someday, Maybe comes a collection of candid and hilarious essays. In Talking As Fast as I Can, Lauren Graham hits pause for a moment and looks back on her life, sharing laugh-out-loud stories about growing up, starting out as an actress, and, years later, sitting in her trailer on the Parenthood set and asking herself, “Did you, um, make it?”. Including photos and excepts from the diary Graham kept during the filming of the recent Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, this book is like a cosy night in with your best friend, laughing and swapping stories, and-of-course- talking as fast as you can.

Review –

So if you are a fan of Gilmore Girls, like I am, then you are going to love this book. I couldn’t put it down as soon as I started it. It is rich and intoxicating, just like a strong cocktail, but better yet, it won’t give you a hangover, unless you read it all at once, and give yourself a reading hangover. I loved this book, and I really hope that there is more that comes out.

The books is written in the first person based on Graham’s life, from a child all the way up until right now basically. It skips a lot, so you don’t hear about every single thing that happens to her during her schooling, but it gets good when she starts getting more and more roles. There are flashbacks, flash forwards, retellings and even diary entries in this book based on Graham’s life. The only thing missing from this book is about two or three hundred more pages to make it long enough.

It is short and reads really easy, but what else would you want. It is filled with jokes and quirks and everything people love about Lauren Graham and of course Lorelai Gilmore. They are almost one in the same and it is freaking good. The name dropping isn’t over the top and the quirky sing-song sections are great too.

If you like Gilmore Girls or Parenthood and want to get into the mind of Lauren Graham, then you are going to love this book. But if you’re not really a fan of either of her shows or herself, than I don’t really think this book has a large audience for it.

It is quick and fast and filled to the brim, so if you are looking for a gift for a girl, or a guy, who likes funny actors, than you should get them a copy of Talking as Fast As I Can.

I give this book 4.5 out of 5 booky stars!
